I have 20 years of experience teaching Japanese to over 1,300 individuals of all levels, ages, and professions.
Starting my career in 2001 in Tokyo, I also established a Japanese language school in 2013 in Beppu, Oita, where I now teach university faculty members. Also, I’m currently working with JICA and Ashinaga Africa Division to help many foreigners learn Japanese.
As a Japanese teacher, firstly I try to have fun in our lessons! We support you to learn and practice the language, and guide you through every step to reach to the point where you could naturally express yourself in Japanese and enrich your life with it!

I am a certified Japanese language teacher.I have acquired multiple culture and language experience from import-export business over 10years. I always provide a better way for each learner to develop Japanese language skill through one-on-one lessons and group lessons.
My aim for class
My approach is relaxed, friendly and fun, I feel that we together learn better. I believe that language includes their culture according to my living in 3 different continents over 10years. My story
Meeting with foreigners in Japan and traveling to various countries of South-East Asia during my university years helped me understand I wanted to become a Japanese teacher. Engaged on this path since 2004,
I have now taught Japanese in Japan as well as in Thailand, to foreign nationals of more than 50 different
countries.
My aim for class
While each student may have their own reasons and objectives for choosing to study Japanese, helping them feel that “Japanese language is fun!” becomes a real motivation. With that in mind, I try to prepare my lessons in a way that can be enjoyable while focusing on the practical needs and goals of my students, and put emphasis on communication skills training.

1.Starter(N5)
You will start learning greetings, time and simple conversational Japanese for everyday use. You will learn basic grammar in order to make simple sentences in Japanese.
2.Beginner(N4)
You'll be able to say your hopes, ask for permission. Also you can explain about your feelings in depth. The course also touches on some simple keigo (polite expressions).
3.Intermediate(N3)
The goal of this course is to acquire a broad spectrum of vocabulary. So that you are able to freely use it in copious sentence patterns during conversations. You'll be able to speak about things in general, purely in Japanese.
4.Advanced(N2)
You will be able to understand to some extent newspaper and magazine articles. You will also learn to understand conversations regarding the news. You will learn to discuss articles, on a wide range of topics.

A concentrated course targeted for people who want to work in business in Japan. Learn the etiquette and vernacular of doing business in Japan. You will learn basic formal expressions (basic keigo), setting-specific expressions, in business situations in Japan.

Pass the JLPT and improve your career prospects.
These prep courses are designed to prepare you for everything you encounter on the JLPT. You could achieve a high score in the N2 and N3 test and you can also improve practical skills of Japanese grammar and listening.

The ability to understand Japanese used in everyday situations to a certain degree.

Beppu Language School was a great Japanese learning experience! I would highly recommend this school to any foreigner struggling to learn Japanese, or isn’t too enthusiastic about studying a new language. Kumi san is a great teacher, she knows how to make studying fun. She always modified her teaching strategies according to the particular student, subject matter and learning environment. She isn’t just teaching, but friendly and personal. My target was to learn enough to start a part-time job, and within 3 months, I already got a job. Founded in July 2013, we offer Japanese lessons in small groups, focusing on interactive communication among students.
We have taught over 1,400 students from 50 different countries.
In 2015, we started to teach to foreign lecturers and professors at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU). In 2018 we were asked by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to teach Japanese to Syrian Master students at APU. In 2020 we had a contract with Ashinaga to support African students studying in Japan.
In 2021, in order to help foreigners integrate into society, we started teaching simplified Japanese to Japanese people to ease communication between the two groups.
To acknowledge this additional aim we have re-established the company and have become, Nihongo(Japanese) Compass.
